About the event

The Mobile Crisis Team (MCT) Academy has been extended for two more sessions! The first four sessions of the MCT Academy received outstanding reviews and feedback. The MCT Academy is an interactive live, free training for existing and emerging MCT providers in New Mexico, including provisional and prospective Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC). The MCT Academy is part of the New Mexico's Health Care Authority's commitment to support the expansion of behavioral health crisis services. The two-day live virtual training addresses various topics, including:​​


  • Role of MCTs within the crisis continuum

  • Engagement with special populations

  • Risk and intervention assessment

  • Verbal de-escalation techniques

  • Trauma-informed care

  • Safety planning

  • Motivational interviewing

  • Care coordination

  • Legal considerations for MCTs

  • Situational awareness

  • Inclusion of peer support specialists in mobile response

  • Understanding law enforcement culture


The training provides a foundation for existing and prospective MCT practitioners and offers: 13.25 continuing education credit hours through the University of New Mexico or 13.5 social work continuing education credit hours through New Mexico State University. The MCT Academy’s expert trainers bring decades of national experience in providing mobile crisis services.
